The Costume Institute: China: Through the Looking Glass

"China: Through the Looking Glass" is a groundbreaking exhibition that explores the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion. This year's Met Gala celebrated its theme with some of Hollywood's biggest stars wearing custom-made gowns designed by top designers from around the world. From Rihanna to Taylor Swift to Charlize Theron and Amal Clooney and Victoria Beckham and Emma Watson Samantha Cameron Tiffany Co., Francesca Amfitheatrof among many other celebrities made an appearance at this prestigious event.

This year's Met Gala was themed "Manus x Machina," celebrating both handmade craftsmanship and machine-made design. It was hosted by Anna Wintour for the ninth time since she first took over as chairwoman in 1995. The event raised $10 million for New York City public schools through a live auction held during dinner.

The exhibition itself featured more than three hundred objects spanning four thousand years of Chinese fashion history from ancient jade robes to modern-day haute couture creations inspired by Chinese art and culture.
